10/25/17: I've posted a book update here.
Low-stakes sharing.
I'm trying to get used to putting my writing some place where people can see it.
I recently found a ton of old stories and poetry from high school. Predictably, most of it is awful, but I unearthed one poem that is very precious to me.
I wrote this the morning after my godmother died. The night before, her partner had called to tell us that after routine surgery, a blood clot had traveled to my godmother's lungs, causing a pulmonary embolism. She was dead within moments.
When I'd woken up, just for a split second, I forgot that Donna was dead. When I remembered, I crumbled, and wrote this. It's the most effortless thing I've ever written, taking a total of five minutes, and I never revised it.

...again.
My name is Julianna and WaterMullen is my org. While I spend most of my time working on the research and science communication side of things (you can see examples in my portfolio), I am also a fiction writer.
As my work continues to grow, I'll use this page to post information, news, and writing samples. In the meantime, take a look at my blog post about this year's literary journey so you understand why WaterMullen now has a tab devoted to fiction, not fact.
Thanks for stopping by!
